Fire & Ice Second Saturday (UPDATED)

A big thank you goes out to all who came by. What fun! Here are a few pics!

Here we have the “Fire” side of the show. On the Easel is My latest painting, “River of Fire”. This piece features real lava I brought back from Kalapana, Hawai’i. I used it to build depth and texture in the painting’s foreground. I encourage all who go see it to run your fingers over the surface of the painting. It is intended to be touched. It measures 20×30″
To the left of the easel is “My Hawaii”, another New Release. Measuring 24×36″ it is a generously sized still life. Executed in oils and painted from life, this painting features a loose style with emphasis on form and light. Multiple light sources, one warm artificial and a large window whose lighting changed throughout the day created a dramatic and challenging composition. I am excited how it came out, and the kids are even more pleased with the smoothies that resulted from the painting being completed.
A remaining papaya and Mango were served at the reception. That’s how recent the painting is!
Here I am standing in front of the “Ice” side of my display. My new release “Signs of Spring” is just above the table. I really enjoyed painting this young bull moose. He had so much character and personality. Thank you Heather for the reference material. This painting measures 24×48″ acrylic on panel.

Back to the “Fire” side now.
Proudly showing it’s new gold frame is “Mists of Iao Valley”. It measures 24×36″. This painting I had started a couple months back. I decided to set it aside until the week of the show when in a fit of inspiration I glazed some saturated green, red, and purple tones over the painting. It was amazing how much dimension was added. The Iao (Pronounced ee-ow) Valley is a very beautiful place on the island of Maui with an incredible history.
Lower right is the original of “Secret Sanctuary”. 24×30″ acrylic on panel. This piece is extra special to Greg and I as it represents our first snorkeling experience on Maui. Swimming with this gentle Green Sea Turtle was a wonderful opportunity. The color of the water and the ocean life was astounding. Such beauty! This is my tribute.

Here is a little better angle of “Signs of Spring”.

And lastly, a larger shot of “River of Fire” Here you can begin to see the rough texture in the painting’s foreground.
Thanks again to those who stopped by on Saturday. It made the reception even more special. If you would like to go see, (or touch
) the show, It will be up until May 22nd at Shane Lamb Studios Gallery
Thanks for following along!

Hi Jason! It was a blast!
These pictures almost made me cry, they are amazing Karen. I couldn’t take my eyes off The “River of Fire” painting you did. It is truley a jaw dropper. I am so proud of you!
Thank you Lia! I am so happy you enjoyed them!
You are indeed Hawaiian at heart. Aloha and mahalo for sharing your art.
@Mark
You have no idea, Karen is always painting with Hawaiian music and ocean sounds going.
@Julie
Thanks for reading and viewing, and that’s exactly why she paints them – because she longs to go back. We love Hawaii and we can at least enjoy the art until our next trip. Glad you like them.
Absolutely beautiful! I love the Hawaiian paintings, they leave me longing to go back.
Mark and Julie, Thank you SO much for your kind comments! I am so happy you liked the art!
@admin,
Good post! I am just starting out blogging. How do you find the inspirations for your site? What’s the fastest way to build a fan base? (You know, members that actually want to stop by and read your article?)
(Sorry for the dumb questions, I just want to get started!)

Thanks for your thoughts on the blog design, and we purposefully made the design center around the artwork, not the design of the blog; so, while looking professional your eye focuses on the paintings. Thanks for your thoughts and opinions.
Great info, thanks for useful article. I’m waiting for more
Hey man , thanks for posting but this post doesn’t format correctly in Firefox it is showing only half the page.
Interesting. It shows up just fine in FF2 and 3 for me, I also checked it in IE7,8, and Chrome just to be sure. Let me know if you continue to have the problem, also – thanks for reading.
Your site theme looks cool. What template did you use ?
It’s custom made. Actually I am currently working on building an HTML/WP theme to put on theme forest. I’ll post a blog post when I get to that point. Thanks again for reading.
Good points…I would note that as someone who really doesn't comment to blogs much (in fact, this may be my first post), I don't think the term “lurker†is very flattering to a non-posting reader. It's not your fault really , but perhaps the blogosphere could come up with a better, non-creepy name for the 90% of us that enjoy just reading the posts.
Lurker? Has Whitworth Gallery used that somewhere? It isn’t on this page, in any case I agree that that does sound like a stalker type of phrase. In any case, we appreciate you reading our blog. On a final note, there aren’t any good synonyms for lurk: http://encarta.msn.com/thesaurus_561579735/lurk.html
Hi, admin, can I copy some information from the post?
We would prefer for you to link back to us, as that is how we are able to keep the site up and running. Thanks.
Thanks for the advice. Will put it to work. Tom
Always have to comment , I can’t help it ! Thanks Sasha
I think that is an interesting point, it made me think a bit. Thanks for sparking my thinking cap. Sometimes I get so much in a rut that I just feel like a record.
Amazing, truly excellent information. Your blog is really awesome. I bookmarked this and will come back once again. . . .
Thanks for sharing. Really helpful post.
